Sunday Tipping: Our verdict on 1000 Guineas day

It’s 1000 Guineas day, and the chance for the leading fillies to show what they can do. Yesterday Churchill was victorious, and our tip Barney Roy was really unfortunate there. We did manage to get the Kentucky Derby winner and a 13-2 shot at Goodwood. Hopefully some more joy for our fans today!

1:40 Leopardstown

In what looks a competitively run maiden, Constant Comment could make the frame at a decent price. The three-year-old has only been seen once when finishing fourth at this track, and not too far away from grabbing a top three place. With the run under his belt he could be better, and I’m sure he’ll win a maiden soon.

E/W – Constant Comment (6/1)

1:50 Newmarket (1m4f Handicap)

Frontiersman is a horse I have been tracking for a short while now, and I am really looking forward to seeing how he gets on now dropped into handicap company again. He was very impressive in a handicap at Newmarket in September, before a good effort in a well run Group Three contest at Newbury. In a tough conditions race he wasn’t too far off when fourth, and now he’s in a race that he can win. He’s a leading contender, and if he runs like he did when last at this track he should be too good.

Win – Frontiersman (9/2)

2:20 Newmarket (Dahlia)

This race has been previewed by the Hit The Front team. I fancy Nezwaah for Roger Varian in this one. She’s been a consistent sort throughout last season’s campaign, and was last seen losing out in a Canadian Group One contest. This looks much more suitable for her and I can see her running a good race again. She should be a filly to follow.

Win – Nezwaah (5/1)

2:55 Newmarket (6f Handicap)

Eastern Impact returns to handicapping after what seemed an unsuccessful visit to Dubai. He failed to fire in the middle east with three midfield efforts. In the UK his form is exceptionally strong, and this Group Three winner was last seen finishing third at Wolverhampton in March. He looked slightly unlucky in running that day and should be better. He’s down onto a good mark now, and he could easily win this for a second time.

Win – Eastern Impact (5/1)

3:20 Leopardstown

I am a huge Yucatan fan and I really think he could be a big player in the Derby this season. He was last seen finishing third in a very similar contest. He seemed to get going a bit late, and I think he is a lot better than that run. He meets some competitive stable rivals again, but I think he may have too much class and could really be a star for Ballydoyle.

Win – Yucatan NAP (15/8)

3:35 Newmarket (1000 Guineas)

Make sure you read our full preview here before betting on what looks a really good contest.  But for me I find it very hard to look past Rhododendron who was a very easy Group One winner here last time out. She was absolutely outstanding that day, and I really think she is a bit special. Maybe a mile isn’t the optimum trip, but I still think she will win.

As an each-way prediction I do really like the price of Unforgettable Filly who wasn’t too far off winning the Nell Gwyn last time out. She likes the track which is a huge bonus, will relish the very fast conditions and should be even better over a mile. She has the class to play a leading role, at a very handsome price.

Win – Rhododendrum (11/8) E/W – Unforgettable Filly (33/1)
